Most of the dirt in a house walks in through the front door. A dense coir mat takes the worst of it off shoes before it reaches your floors, and it scrapes properly rather than just looking the part.
The natural coconut fibre is stiff enough to clear mud from a boot tread and springs back rather than matting down after a wet week. A vinyl backing keeps it from sliding on a porch tile or a concrete step. Shake it out over a bin every so often and it will keep working through a full winter.
