Ilva Stainless Steel Chopping Board

A large 304 stainless steel board, 50 by 40cm, sized to sit across a worktop or over a sink cutout and give you a single continuous surface to work on.

Steel is non-porous. It has no grain and no knife grooves for residue to sit in, so it rinses genuinely clean rather than gradually holding onto the smell of everything you have prepared on it. It is the reason commercial kitchens use steel benches.

Worth knowing before you buy

• The edges are sharp. This is the most common complaint by a wide margin. More than a third of the negative reviews are about it, and several buyers describe the edges as dangerous rather than merely sharp. Handle it by the faces rather than running a hand along the rim, keep it out of reach of children, and take care washing it. We would rather flag this than have you find out at the sink.
• It will scratch, and it is meant to. A steel surface marks visibly where a wooden board would hide it. The scratches are cosmetic and do not affect how it cleans, but if you want a board that still looks new in a year, this is not it.
• Steel dulls knives faster than wood or plastic. It is harder than either. Excellent for hygiene and for dough work; less kind to a good knife edge than an end-grain board.
