Overhead light flattens a room. A table lamp in the corner does the opposite, and this one throws a soft pool of light that makes an evening living room feel settled rather than simply lit.
The ribbed ceramic base has enough weight to sit safely on a side table beside a sofa. The linen drum shade diffuses the bulb, so you do not catch the filament from across the room. An inline switch sits partway down the cord, which is easier to find in the dark than a switch tucked under the shade. It takes a standard E26 bulb, sold separately, so you choose your own warmth and brightness.
