Shoes pile up by the front door because there is nowhere for them to go. This bench gives them three tiers underneath and gives you somewhere to sit while you put them on, which is the part most shoe racks forget about.
The seat is a padded top on a steel frame, wide enough for two people at school-run speed. Three open shelves below take around twelve pairs, and the bottom tier is raised so a mop or a brush passes underneath. The open sides let air move around damp trainers instead of shutting the smell into a cupboard. Adjustable feet keep it steady on older floors, and it goes together in about twenty minutes.
